Yes, liquid can easily enter your nose from your mouth because they share a continuous connection at the back of your throat.

Why It Happens

Normally, when you swallow, a flap of tissue called the soft palate lifts up to seal off your nasal passages. However, liquid can travel upward into your nose in a few common scenarios: 

Laughing or Coughing: Laughing while drinking causes a sudden, involuntary exhale of air. This breaks the seal of your soft palate, forcing the liquid up and out of your nose.

Backpressure: Drinking too quickly, sneezing, or blowing out air through your mouth while liquids are present can create pressure that pushes fluid upward. 

When to Be Concerned

While having water, milk, or juice briefly pass through your nose is usually harmless (though uncomfortable), repeated occurrences could indicate a medical condition:

Nasal Regurgitation: If food or liquids frequently come out of your nose, it could be a sign of a swallowing disorder or a weakness in the muscles at the back of your throat.

Aspiration Risk: If liquid goes the wrong way—down into your windpipe instead of your esophagus—it can enter your lungs and lead to a serious infection called aspiration pneumonia. 

You should consult a healthcare provider if you consistently experience food or liquid entering your nose or lungs when you eat or drink.
